Box pleated kilts made from four yards of cloth, in the style of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.

Explanation:

There are three weight ranges typically used for civilian kilts. A light kilt weight is 10 oz per yard. A medium kilt weight is 13 oz per yard. A heavy kilt weight is 16 oz per yard. For a four yard kilt, I do not recommend light kilt weights, and so only offer my kilts in medium and heavy weight cloth. (Regimental tartans are typically made in an 18 oz range. Certain tartans are available in this weight. Contact me if you are interested.)

I obtain my cloth from various Scottish woolen mills, including Lochcarron, The House of Edgar, Strathmore, and D. C. Dalgleish. If you wish your cloth to be provided by a particular mill, please let me know. If you need recommendations of what tartan to choose, or where to view tartan images on line, go here.

I can provide a kilt in any tartan you choose. If it is not available from the stock range of any of the above woolen mills, I can have it custom woven in a heavy kilting weight. If you want to have your own personal tartan designed for you, I can provide this service as well. Click here for my design service details.

You can also provide your own cloth and I can make a kilt from it, providing it is of suitable weight and quality.

Kilts do not have to be tartan. I can also make them in solid colors, and in tweeds. Occasionally I will find kilting cloth at a special price and these will be detailed here in our specials section.

Please email me to let me know what tartan you are interested in (or what other type of cloth if not a tartan) and I will let you know what weights are available. The prices above are for kilts made with a breach (hip) measurement of 46" or less. A surcharge will apply for larger sizes.

Typical turnaround time is currently about 5 months. This may vary depending upon my current workload at the time of your order. If you have a deadline, please let me know. I am happy to accommodate your deadline within reason. Shipping charges are $16.00 in the US for FedEx delivery.
