Your Kilt Maker

Matthew A. C. Newsome, FSA Scot, GTS

When you order your kilt from this site, you are ordering your kilt from an individual kilt maker, not a firm or conglomerate.  Each kilt I sell is hand tailored entirely by myself.

Who am I?  Since 1997 I have served as the curator of the Scottish Tartans Museum.  I am a published author on topics dealing with the kilt and Highland Dress.  My books include Early Highland Dress, my Patented Advice for First Time Kilt Wearers, and the Compendium of District Tartans, which I co-authored with James A. Bullman.  I have also published many articles in The Scottish Banner, as well as many Highland Games programs and clan society newsletters. You can find me posting frequently at the XMarkstheScot.com kilt forum (my ID is M. A. C. Newsome).

I am a member of the Guild of Tartan Scholars, and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.

I have worn the kilt on a nearly daily basis for years.  I also have years of experience selling kilts of all types.  Now I am very glad to bring this experience to you as your kilt maker.

As each kilt is individually hand tailored to your needs, I feel that it is important that you feel you can talk to, and trust, your kilt maker.  This is why I let you know this background about myself.  I live in the mountains of western North Carolina, with my wife and our four children, whom your kilt purchase helps me to support.

No one has ever gotten rich from selling kilts and I certainly do not have any such illusions.  Kilt making is a labor of love.  If your kilt is unsatisfactory in any way, please let me know as soon as you receive it and I will do whatever needs to be done to make it right.  You have my guarantee.
